Gordan parks:

This photograph has been compared to the American Gothic, by Grant Wood.  What is similar in this photograph?
-It is similar that in both photos there all holding something and also in both photos they have a serious unhappy face.

What is different about this photograph?
-Whats different about these photos is that the Gordan park is in door and the American Gothic is out side uin like a farm. Also in American Gothic there is a man and a lady and in Grant wood there is only one man.

What do you think Gordon Parks is trying to say?
-I think Gordon Parks photograph is trying to say that men can wear dresses also and that noy only women map and sweep. This photo was taken alot of years ago. Back then there was slavery.

Note: look at the date the photograph was taken to help you with this question

Dorothea Lange:

Lange took this photograph of a Japanese owned store the day after Pearl Harbor (1941). By putting up this sign, what was the store owner trying to say to others about how he felt about America?
-I think he wanted peace with americans.

When America attacked Afghanistan in 2002 and Iraq in 2003, many people of Middle Eastern descent living in America put American flags in their windows. How is this similar or different to what the Japanese store owner did in 1941?
-Its similar because they both wanted to have peace with americans. They wanted to stop the war.

Eugene Smith:

Coal mining had less restrictions during 1950 than it does now, meaning that it was more hazardous and more dangerous.  What is this photo showing about a coal miner's life?
-What this photo is trying to say about coal miner's life is that they work hard and they get dirty. They look very suspisous.

Do you think this photo was posed?  Why or why not?
-No i dont think this photo was posted becuase the men in the photo look like there up to something and if it was post they would atleast had time to clean there faces.

Mary Ellen:

By looking at this photograph, what can you tell about this family?
-What i can say about this family is that they look every unhappy and sad. It looks like there in some type of need.

What is the man's relationship with the woman and how can you tell? What are the children's relationship like and how can you tell?
- The relationship with the woman and the man i think is that the women is the wife and the man is the husband. It looks like the men loves the women but she looks unhappy and sad.
-The relationship wit the children is that there brother and sister. It looks like the Little girl protects the little boy. They look really scared.

Henri Cartier-Bresson:
“This woman explained to me that the flagpole over her door was broken, but ‘on such a day as this, one keeps one’s flag on one’s heart.’ I felt in her a touch of the strength and robustness of the early American pioneers.”—Henri Cartier-Bresson, Independence Day, 1947.
Do you think that people are just as patriotic now as they were in the 40's?  Explain your reasoning.
-No i dont think people are as patriotic as they were in the 40th becuase now adays people are heartless they just care about them self and dont care of independence day and ect.
